Who We Are
Nature Somalia is a non-governmental, community-led conservation organization working to safeguard Somalias birds, wildlife, wetlands, and coastal ecosystems.
Since the collapse of the central government in 1991, Somalia’s natural ecosystems have been under severe and sustained threat due to prolonged conflict, political instability, and the breakdown of national governance structures. Somalia is inherently rich in biodiversity—its wetlands, grasslands, and coastal zones have historically supported a wide range of migratory and resident bird species, mammals, and marine life. However, these ecosystems are now under pressure from habitat destruction, poaching, and unregulated exploitation of natural resources. As a result, many species have become endangered, vanished entirely, or been forced to migrate to neighboring regions.
Nature Somalia was founded by a group of environmental conservation experts, the organization aims to fill a critical gap in national conservation leadership and operates at the nexus of biodiversity conservation, community resilience, and sustainable development.
Vision
A peaceful and thriving ecosystem where people and nature coexist in harmony, and biodiversity is upheld as the foundation of resilience, stability, and sustainable growth.
Mission
We aim to promote the conservation of biodiversity and natural ecosystems through dedicated research, advocacy, education, and meaningful community participation.
Our Core Values
We prioritize the protection of birds, wildlife, and fragile ecosystems that are essential to Somalia's natural heritage.
Conservation begins at the grassroots. We work hand-in-hand with local communities to ensure ownership, sustainability, and impact.
Our work is grounded in research, monitoring, and data-driven approaches to safeguard species and habitats.
We focus on restoring degraded wetlands, coasts, and habitats to build ecological and community resilience.
We believe in the power of working together with local, national, and international partners to achieve shared conservation goals.
We are committed to educating and empowering current and future generations to become stewards of Somalia’s natural legacy.
